Sell Used Office Chairs in London
If you are sitting on surplus seating after a move, a downsize or a refit, you do not have to pay someone to take it away. We buy office chairs across London, value them for free and turn a disposal line in your budget into a payment back to the business.

Disposal that pays you, not the other way round
Most facilities managers first look at surplus seating as a cost. A clearance contractor quotes per item or per load, a skip is booked, and several hundred chairs that still have years of service in them go out of the building as waste. That is the default, and it is expensive twice over: you pay the removal fee, and you write off the residual value of assets the business already owns.
We work the other way round. Before anything is booked, we look at what you actually have and what it is worth on the second-hand market. Where there is resale value, we pay you for it. Where there isn't, we tell you plainly and can still take the items away as part of a wider clearance so you get one clean handover instead of two contractors and two invoices.
What we buy
The short answer is quality seating that someone else will want to sit in. That usually means branded ergonomic task chairs, meeting and conference seating, executive chairs and draughtsman stools. Herman Miller Aeron, Mirra and Embody, Steelcase Leap, Please and Gesture, Humanscale Freedom and Diffrient, Vitra, Orangebox, Senator, Boss Design and Interstuhl all hold their value well and are the models we are asked for most often.
Condition matters more than age. A ten-year-old Aeron with a sound frame, working tilt and clean mesh is far more interesting to us than a three-year-old budget chair from a catalogue. We expect normal office wear — scuffed arms, marked seat pads, tired fabric — and our workshop deals with that. What we cannot use is cracked frames, seized or missing gas lifts, water damage, smoke damage or heavy staining.
Beyond seating, we also buy desks, desk pedestals, storage, height-adjustable frames and meeting tables where the specification is right. If you want the full picture on non-seating items, see our sell office furniture page, and if your stock is mainly Herman Miller, our Herman Miller Aeron buying page covers grading and pricing for that range specifically.
How the valuation process works
We have kept the process deliberately light on your time, because we know a clearance is rarely the only thing on a facilities manager's desk that week.
- Send us what you have. A rough list and a handful of phone photos is enough to start — make and model if you know it, quantity, and the floor or site the chairs are on. An asset register or a furniture schedule from the fit-out is even better, but not required.
- Desk valuation. We come back with an indicative figure, usually within one working day. This tells you early whether the numbers are worth taking to your budget holder, before anyone commits to a site visit.
- Site assessment. For larger volumes we visit and check a representative sample: frames, mechanisms, gas lifts, arms, upholstery and consistency across the batch. We also look at the practical side — lift access, loading bay, protected floors, building management rules and permitted working hours.
- Firm written offer. You receive a fixed price per line, the collection scope, what we are taking and what we are not, and the payment terms. There are no deductions applied afterwards, and nothing changes once the offer is signed unless the stock on the day differs from what was quoted.
How collection is scheduled
Once the offer is accepted we book a slot that suits the building rather than us. Central London work is routinely done in the evening, overnight or at weekends, and we are used to loading bay bookings, goods lift permits, dock time windows and landlord conditions. We provide RAMS, insurance certificates and staff details in advance for building management sign-off.
Our team wraps and protects the route, dismantles where needed, and leaves the floor swept and clear. You get a collection note listing exactly what left the building, which is usually what your finance or asset team needs for write-off records. Where you need it, we can also supply a reuse and recycling summary showing the proportion of stock diverted from landfill — helpful evidence for ESG and Scope 3 reporting.
If the collection is part of a wider strip-out, it usually makes sense to fold this into a single job. Our office clearance London service handles the whole floor, with the resale value of the good stock offset against the cost of clearing the rest.
Where the chairs go
Everything we buy comes back to our workshop, where chairs are cleaned, tested, repaired and re-sold to smaller businesses, charities and start-ups who could never justify the price of the same seating new. That is the point of the model: your surplus becomes someone else's decent chair instead of a skip load, you recover cash rather than paying to lose it, and the carbon already embodied in the product keeps working.

FAQ
Selling used office chairs — common questions
Which used office chairs do you buy?
We buy branded task and executive seating in working, resaleable condition — Herman Miller, Steelcase, Humanscale, Vitra, Orangebox, Senator, Boss Design and similar. Chairs need to be structurally sound with intact gas lifts, bases and mechanisms; light wear, scuffs and dated fabric are fine. We do not buy broken frames, heavily stained upholstery or unbranded budget seating.
How many chairs do I need before you'll collect?
As a guide, 20 chairs or more makes a standalone collection viable across London. Smaller quantities of high-value seating, such as a handful of Aeron or Leap chairs, are usually still worth a call, and small batches can often be picked up alongside another job in the same area.
Who buys second hand office chairs in London?
OfficeMatrix does. We are a London-based buyer working directly with facilities, workplace and property teams. Unlike a general clearance contractor who charges to remove furniture, we assess resale value first and pay you for the stock we take.
How quickly do you pay?
Payment terms are agreed in writing before collection. In most cases we pay by bank transfer within a few working days of the chairs being collected and checked in at our warehouse, and we can issue a purchase order or invoice to suit your finance team's process.
