Why Aerons are worth selling, not skipping
The Aeron holds second-hand demand better than almost any other task chair. It was designed for a long service life, it is genuinely repairable — mesh, arms, gas lifts and tilt mechanisms can all be replaced rather than binned — and buyers recognise it instantly. That combination keeps a steady market for used stock in a way that budget seating never achieves.
It also ages well in the ways that matter commercially. A chair that has been in an office for a decade can still have a sound frame and a working mechanism, and the parts that do wear are the ones our workshop can refresh. Age on its own tells us very little; condition tells us almost everything.
A batch from a single fit-out is especially attractive. Chairs bought together are usually the same generation, the same size and the same specification, which makes them straightforward to grade, refurbish and resell as a consistent product rather than as individual odds and ends.
What affects the valuation
Several things move the figure. Size matters, since B is the volume seller and A and C sit in narrower markets. Generation matters — Classic and Remastered are valued differently. Specification matters a great deal: fully adjustable arms, lumbar support or PostureFit, and a tilt limiter all lift a chair above the basic build.
Condition is assessed across the mesh, the frame and the moving parts. Normal office wear is expected and priced in — marked mesh, scuffed arm pads, tired finish on the base. None of that is a problem; it is what a refurbishment workshop exists to deal with.
What does reduce or remove value is structural: cracked frames, torn or sagging mesh, seized tilt mechanisms, failed gas lifts and missing components. We say that plainly at valuation rather than quoting optimistically and revising later. Batch consistency is the final factor — a uniform batch is worth more than the same number of chairs in mixed sizes and specifications.
How to tell what you have
Size is marked on the back of the chair, on the rear edge of the frame near the bottom of the backrest: one dot for size A, two for B, three for C. If the dots are worn away, the label on the underside of the seat carries the model and build information.
Classic and Remastered are easy to separate once you know what to look for. The Remastered has a slimmer, cleaner frame profile, a redesigned tilt mechanism, and an integrated PostureFit SL support rather than the older bolt-on lumbar pad. Side by side the difference is obvious; on its own, the back of the chair is the quickest tell.
For a fast valuation, the photos that help most are: the full chair from the front and the back, a clear shot of the label on the underside of the seat, and close-ups of the mesh and the arms. Phone photos are fine. A few representative chairs from a large batch is usually enough, along with a note on anything obviously damaged.

If your surplus includes other manufacturers alongside the Herman Miller, send the whole list. A mixed batch of branded seating is usually easier to place, and quoting on it as one job normally produces a better outcome than splitting it.

Selling Herman Miller Aeron chairs — common questions
Do you buy single Aeron chairs or only bulk?
Bulk is our core work — batches from a move, refit or downsize. That said, Aerons hold their value well enough that small quantities are usually still worth a call, and a handful can often be picked up alongside another collection in the same area.
Does the size matter?
Yes. Size B is the most common and the most in demand, so a batch of Bs is the easiest to place. Size A and size C chairs still sell, but demand is narrower, so the mix across your batch does affect the overall valuation.
Do you buy damaged Aerons?
Chairs with cracked frames, torn mesh or seized mechanisms have little or no resale value on their own. Within a larger batch we may still take them for parts, since Aerons are repairable and components are worth having. We will be clear at valuation about which chairs we are buying to resell and which we are taking for parts.
Do I need proof of purchase?
No. We do ask you to confirm that the business owns the stock and is authorised to sell it, which is normally a simple written confirmation from whoever is signing off the disposal.
